Sac fun!

Sorry if anyone at all reads this, which is doubtful. I haven't posted in almost two months! I apologize!! I'm up in Sacramento for the time being. I was in Orange County for a bit. I'm looking for jobs and hoping to get one soon. I can't wait for Lacy's wedding, very excited. Other than that, not much going on. Hope everyone is well and keeps safe over the Memorial Day Weekend. I'll try and post more as things happen maybe. Or just give up on the blogging thing. haha.

Sushi

I've just been hanging out here in Orange County. Visiting with friends and having fun. I had a sopapilla yesterday at Anita's New Mexican Mexican Food in Fullerton. I haven't had a sopapilla since I lived in Arkansas. It wasn't as puffy as I would have liked, but it still tasted good. The food didn't seem too New Mexican to me or my mom, but it was decent. Last night I had sushi! Well just one piece, but still that's big for me. The last time I had sushi I did not like it at all. It tasted too much like seaweed. But the one I had last night was rolled in seaweed and then rice, so the seaweed wasn't overwhelming. It had tuna, crab, and shrimp tempura, avocado, and I think that's all. Really I couldn't taste much besides rice. And I loved the crunchy texture of the tempura mixed in with the soft textures of the other foods. I will definitely give it another go sometime and eat some more pieces!

So just trying to figure out what I am going to do and will let you all know as soon as I know! =)

The OC

Yes, I'm in Orange County. The weather was too crappy to go anywhere else this past week. So I came here and will visit with friends before heading to Colorado Springs to visit Audra! Got into the area Thursday around 5:30 and stopped by to see my mom. We had dinner at El Torito. I am staying with my friends Jamie and Elliot while I am here. They are nice enough to let me hang out with them :). Yesterday we went to the Original Pancake house which was yum and then hung out and had dinner at Jamie's parents. Dinner was excellent. I had the best Calamarie ever. I think the place is called Beachfire and it is in San Clemente. I had the chicken lettuce wraps which were great as well. It's always fun hanging out with all of them. Tonight we are going to have dinner at their house. John is an excellent cook so I know it is going to be some goooood food. Can't wait! I will be in Orange County until around the 11.

What is this January!?

Super annoyed with the weather. Thinking I may have to completely change my plans. Happy for the rain and snow, but that means no driving over the Sierras for me. I need to stop stressing on what is supposed to be a FUN trip! Bahhhhh!! Everyday the weather changes.

Snow Snow go away, come again another day (i.e. next Winter, or at least until I get over the Sierras!). But Rain you are welcome, just not in the mountains where you will turn into snow and ice. Thank you very much.

Tiajuana Torte!

I finally found a car clothes hanger bar at Target on Sunrise. Neither Walmart nor the other Target had one. I guess I should buy some chains for my car in case it snows somewhere. Still have yet to do that. I hope they aren't too expensive. I also had a great day and dinner last night hanging out with family. Thanks Uncle Jeff and Aunt Rosie for the yummy torte, salad, and margaritas! I always love dinner at your house =D It's way better than any restaurant!

Adventure time!

So here's what my current upcoming plans are:

Leave next week for Salt Lake City. Not sure what day, depends on Vickie and the snow. Stay for a bit.

After that, I'm not sure. Possibly drive up to Yellowstone!? Maybe just head on over to Colorado.

Check out some places in Colorado. Mostly the Denver area and Colorado Springs. Should be fun! =) And I get to visit Audra and fam!

Head down to Orange County maybe. May try and check out the Grand Canyon on the way as I've never been. We'll see.

Come back to Sacramento April 24 for Lacy's bridal shower and then after that not sure. Maybe I'll head up to Oregon and Washington for two weeks before I come back to Sac.

So pray for me on my trip and I'll be posting to the blog here as I go. Ok folks! That's all for now. I'll let you know when I leave! =)

More stout and chocolate!

Went by Capitol Garage today...and picked up some truffles. They are a bit pricey...$5 for 3. But every once in a while that wouldn't be too bad. Had a pretty good stout with them. Tasted like chocolate and coffee. It's called 8 Ball Stout. Ran some errands and came home to watch Lost. My friend bought me New Moon! Wahoo!! She's awesome!! =) Can't wait to watch it! =) And that was my day!

What a farce!

You know what REAL health care reform would look like. All these top drug and food companies that make TRILLIONS on us would be set to higher standards. How about banning the use of chemicals in our food that make us sick or worse kill us. Oh no we can't do that, that would mean too many people would LOSE money. And since we are so sick we need drugs from the drug companies, which actually make us worse and then we die. If you don't believe that GREED and MONEY are the forces behind the food and drug administration and all the companies that profit, wake up. Most of what we eat is CRAP. We are a nation addicted to chemically laden time "saving" crap. Let's reform that and perhaps we wouldn't be spending so much money on health care.

I watched the show Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution tonight. I have to say I am guilty of eating processed crap as well, but I do try a bit to be healthy. It was so sad to watch these kids eat this crap. I was once one of those kids. However, most of the time I had a mom who would make me a lunch. Of course we all love burgers and pizza, but you can't eat it once a week. At least not the kind they are eating. I'm sure the townspeople and cooks are lovely people, but how can someone honestly defend the processed crap we eat? Really it's not about the food, it's about pride. When your pride is hurt, you get defensive. If people feel like you are telling them they just don't get it, they will fight back. I sure hope it's pride, because if people really believe that processed "food" is good for them, I don't know if there is much hope. I think it's awesome that Jamie Oliver is trying to change the way we think about food. A lot of people think they don't have time or money to eat healthy. Sure a taco and a burrito for $2 is cheap, but if you plan, you can eat healthy for $2 also. A package of whole wheat pasta is $2.50 and a jar of sauce is $2.50. That should feed at least 4 people if you add vegetables. So for $8 which is two per person, I'm pretty sure you can have a healthy dinner. Besides, pasta takes a whole 8 minutes to cook and steamed veggies can't take much longer. Are we really so impatient we can't wait 10 minutes for dinner? I am totally guilty of this. Mainly I just don't know how to cook veggies and make them taste good. You can't microwave them. It kills all the nutrients. You can't boil them, all the nutrients go into the water. Unless it's a soup and you drink the liquid. So you can grill the veggies or steam them. And not steam them in a microwave. So when are we all going to wake up and realize we are killing ourselves. When AM I going to wake up and realize that. Sure it's ok to indulge every once in a while. Junk food just has that hold on me and so many people. It's made to be addictive...otherwise it wouldn't be so hard to give it up. Let's hope I'll get a hold on it. I wish the best of luck to others...

Beer and Buffalo burgers!

Marzenfest was fun yesterday. Quite a few old folks, but there was still some good beer and friends =) The band's music was a bit loud (now I sound old), but what can ya do haha. I tried 4 different beers and all were pretty tasty. Then we headed over to the Flaming Grill for some burgers. They serve some interesting meat. They have llama, elk, yak, lion, buffalo, ostrich...umm and who knows what else. I had the Buffalo burger and I must say it was tasty. I wasn't brave enough to try the other meat. I thought the buffalo was better than cow, but it could have been the fact I was hungry and a full of beer haha. It was a long day and I had some crazy dreams last night...glad it's over haha.

Marzenfest!

Excited about the Marzenfest on Saturday. It will just be fun to do something new!

I think I've pretty much figured out what I am going to do for the next two months at least. Still hoping I will get a job though. I'll let everyone know when I'm certain.

The 70 degree weather has been nice. It's a bit windy today.

Well got to get busy doing some stuff so I'll write more later!

Bright, Bright, Sunshiney day!

So today was a nice day! It was sunny outside and actually not too cold if you sat in the sun. Church service was excellent. Two young kids were baptized! Awesome! And it's Impact's 10 year anniversary! I was one of those people that forgot about the time change until I got into my car. Luckily my phone actually sets itself so I was on time still. Otherwise I would have missed church. We had an awesome bar-b-que after church with a dunk tank for the pastors. I didn't participate as 1) I most likely would not have hit the target and 2) I feel bad and wouldn't want to be dunked myself, so I didn't want to dunk someone else. Heard some great testimonies of God working in people's lives. I also got a tiny sunburn on my face and I good workout. We all pitched in after to get things put away. I needed the vitamin D anyway, so the sunburn is ok haha. =) All in all a good day.

Watching Holmes on Homes now and after need to sleep as it's currently 12:42. Ugh! Dang time change! I'm not too sleepy either. Until later, Peace.

Who Do You Think You Are?

I really like the show. Emmitt's was more interesting than Sarah Jessica Parker, but I think that's because it seemed to be more of a story or a journey. The upside to the show is that more people watch and become more interested in their family tree. But that is also the downside. Being a paid member of ancestry.com for a couple of years now, when this show comes on, the ancestry sight is much slower. But good for ancestry in getting people interested in their family trees. Obviously it is a lot more work than the show shows. Some records are very easy to find, but others are not. It has taken me two years to get to the point I am and I still don't feel I've even begun. I've only done the basics. Find my ancestors that I can and their kids and when they were born, died, etc. I haven't found very many cool facts out about them or anything like that. Well only a couple I have anyway. I know for a lot of people there are many things that block their search. Adoptions, name changes, family secrets, and other various things. I feel blessed that I actually got to grow up for half of my life with three full sets of great grandparents. They've all passed away now except for two, but a lot of people don't get to know their grandparents, let alone their great grandparents. This made the beginning of my search much easier. Eventually I'd like to get a DNA test done. I think that would be helpful in just tracing family roots even more and connecting with other distant family members. I highly suggest everyone at least trying to find out a little bit about your family tree and where you come from. Even if it's just a little bit, I think it's important to our kids and future generations to know this information and to pass it on. Good luck in your search, and if you need any help, let me know. I'm not an expert, but I've been doing this for long enough to almost know something =) Happy searching!

Brawny Guy=Eddie Cibrian, maybe he should sue!

I was watching the brawny commercial a little bit ago, and I thought, man that animated brawny guy looks similar to Eddie Cibrian. That's funny, maybe he should take a note from Lindsay "Milkaholic" Lohan and sue Brawny. So funny. Seriously, did any of you watch that etrade commercial and think, "Wow that's so sad they are making fun of Lindsay Lohan!" Well me either! I can't believe she thinks she can sue for using her name. I mean even if etrade intentionally was trying to summon the legend of Lindsay Lohan, who cares! Well I guess if you are her and desperate for money because your acting skills went downhill after the age of like 10, or the only part you can play is a mean girl, you might have to sue to pay for your party lifestyle. That's mean huh, poor Lindsay, Got Milk? =D

Brawny Guy

Eddie Cibrian

You be the judge.

Teardrop Camper

So I've been thinking about where I am going to live when I get booted out of the love birds nest haha. If I could only build a teardrop camper, I could just live in that. Most estimates say you can build one for about $1,500. That's not bad! Well I have neither the skills, nor the tools to build one, but it would be cool. Hopefully I'll get a job and a place to live, if not, I'm not sure what I am going to do. We'll see. I still want a teardrop camper though, at some point. Would like to build my own as that is more cost effective and I could customize it. One can dream right? =)

AZ Teardrops photo gallery

Very cool designs on some of them. Check it out!

Paulaner Beer and stupid dental offices

Let's just say I have a new fondness for Paulaner beer. It was also the first real beer I ever tried. I love it and love the company. If you haven't tried one, do!

I got some random bill from that awful dental office I visited, Smile Care, for $40. Now I have to call my insurance company and find out what they didn't pay and why I am being billed. Ugh...stupid dental office.

Holmes on Homes

I love watching this show. Mike Holmes is definitely a great guy and very talented. I sometimes wonder what it would be like to be a skilled carpenter, or some other type of trade. Perhaps working on restoring cars like on Overhaulin. Another great show. I've always been interested in homes, design and carpentry, etc. Maybe I should have done something that involved those things. Learned from a master like Mike. Ah one can dream, can't they?! =)

No go

Unfortunately and what I assumed, I did not make it to the next round for Teach for America. I'm sure with this economy, some very qualified people applied. It was a long shot, but worth a shot. I also heard back from University of Phoenix, didn't get that position either. So gotta keep applying and figure out what I am going to do. Sigh..I hate looking for a job. I hate being in debt and tied down. If I had no debt I would be doing a lot of things right now. Unfortunately, I have to pay bills....

Truffles

I found out Capitol Garage actually makes their own truffles. Good to know, they were excellent.

Dancing with the stars is going to be fun! Kate Gosselin, Jake, other big names. Woohoo!

Nothing else to say today.

Stout!

I was very surprised I actually liked the Stouts I drank last night. They were not as bitter as I thought. Of course they were much better with those delicious chocolate truffles! So we had a Mendocino Black Hawk Stout, Lost Coast 8-Ball Stout, Deschutes Obsidian Stout, and a Sierra Nevada Stout. The Sierra Nevada was my least favorite. It was a bit too bitter for me. That was my first time ever trying a stout. The other three tasted fairly similar. I emailed Capitol Garage to find out where they bought the truffles from. Hopefully they respond! Maybe it was the beer, but those truffles were excellent!

Watched the Time Traveler's Wife. Well not the whole movie just the latter half of it. It was sad. I don't need to go back and watch the beginning, I got enough of it.

Did you know Seattle is NOT the rainiest city or even in the top 10? In fact, Seattle does not even make it in the top 12 (give or take rainier years and account for anomalies) Basically most cities in the South and the East Coast get more rainfall. However someone described it this way, in the South it's like someone dumps a bucket of water on you every couple of days, in Seattle, it's like someone is squirting you with a water gun every day. While Seattle does not have as much rain as Texarkana (I lived there for 15 years), Seattle is cloudy about 200 days of the year and partly cloudy about 90 something days. So basically you only get about 60-70 sunny days a year. Where as in Texarkana, there are about 215 Sunny days, 90 something days of rain, and the rest are maybe just partly cloudy. Anyway, I'm sure I'd really miss the sun since I've been so spoiled in California. I'm not moving to Seattle, just dreaming. =D

Priceless?

Winter Wheat Ale and fries at Rubicon- $10

Stout and Chocolate tasting at Capitol Garage- $17.50

Parking Ticket- $39.50

Hanging out with friend in Downtown Sacramento on a Saturday night...Priceless...??? haha....uh NOT...ok it was fun...but still lesson to self: Parking meters are not free on Saturdays, even if all the cars next to you have expired meters.

Good to know...and a $40 lesson. Bah! It was still a fun night though!!!

It's technically the 27, but I haven't been to sleep so!

Today I helped to fix a toilet. First plumbing experience really. We changed the inner workings of the tank and also the wax ring and such on the bottom. No leaks, so hopefully that means we did it right. And then I had to clean up the mess. haha. And that pretty much sums up my whole day. Oh I watched The Changeling with Angelina Jolie. I thought it was a really great movie. I like Clint Eastwood movies, he does a great job I think. Tomorrow...what's in store..hmm....well I need to go to the bank. I guess that's all I really need to do. Such an exciting life I lead!

And the search goes on...

I had a group interview today at University of Phoenix. I believe I will find out sometime next week if I move on to the next stage I think. I will also be hearing back from Teach for America on March 2. I hope I move on to the next stage. I know it will be a ridiculous amount of work, but I'm ready. I'm willing to move anywhere, well almost anywhere. We'll see where life takes me.

Oh I also got my laptop back. The fan in my hp was loud and sounded broken. After only 10 days in the hands of Geeksquad, it's now a quiet hum like it's supposed to sound. I am glad I bought the warranty in case anything happens.

I'm tired, so I'm going to go to sleep now! Just wanted to get this blog in! =D

Peace outside.

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Ah!

Forgot to post yesterday. I signed on and got distracted. I did nothing of merit yesterday besides work on my family tree anyway. Working on your family tree becomes addicting! Tomorrow I have this interview thing, so hopefully it will go well. Today I did at least get up, take a shower and went to Walmart. I had to get some resume paper, some new ink, and a printer cable. Mission accomplished. Tonight I have bible study! Hurray! So I missed a day, oh well! Here's most post for today. haha.

Slightly Snoring Snowbell

It's 1:56 am and Snowbell (my sister's cat) is slightly snoring. It's cute watching her sleep. Out of all the cats my sister and I have ever had, she is my favorite. Besides Cuddles. Nothing will ever replace my little runt, half blind, half deaf, seizure of a cutie cat Cuddles. She or he will forever be missed. That's sad, I can't remember if Cuddles was a boy or girl. The poor thing after a year was honest to goodness no bigger than a couple week old kitten. We stayed up to feed the poor thing with an eye dropper and milk. That resulted in me accidentally putting milk in my eye thinking it was my contact eye drops. I shouldn't have been sleeping in my contacts in the first place, but boy did it burn. We finally had to put Cuddles to sleep because the seizures were just awful and the poor thing was in pain. Snowbell is alive and well though, so it's all good. Goodnight folks.

365 days of my life!

My goal this year is to blog every day for 365 days. Even if I only post one line, I think it's a good way to go back and look at where I've been. Today I learned all about Egypt's ancient rulers. I literally watched the Discovery Channel for 9 hours. Hopefully it made me smarter!? *Fingers Crossed* Also been doing some more family tree research. I have a week left on my free trial. My paid subscription ran out in Dec unfortunately. I'll wait until I get a job to actually pay for it again. Hopefully I will be getting a job soon...
